Through documentary film, longtime residents Bobby Johnson, Charonda Johnson, Pastor Samuel Smith, and Dr. Sally Wickers share their lived experiences of Freedmen’s Town. Their testimonies center the voices of the community, offering insight into its history, resilience, and ongoing legacy.

A wash of images shows Freedmen’s Town as it exists today —its streets, houses, and spaces moving gently through the lens. Set to music, the film evokes the rhythm and texture of everyday life, letting the neighborhood itself become a space to inhabit, feel, and remember.

“We are bringing the Gucci Changemakers initiative to life by bringing it into the real lives of real people.” A short film by Satchel Lee with creative direction by Drøme is a call to action for Gucci’s commitment to creating lasting social impact in diverse communities and within the fashion industry. The Changemakers interviewed in the film explain what they stand for, how they look out for one another and build a community, with a call to action to take part in the initiative.
